Wrangle Sea Bank

Major Development Project:

The Wrangle Bank is an existing sea bank defence south-east of Wrangle, Lincolnshire. The bank consists of grassed earth embankments running along the Lincolnshire coastline. The development project required the re-profiling of approximately 5.8km of the existing sea bank to repair sea damage. The repair work therefore raised the bank’s crest height by building up the height and angle of the banks from the landward side using material gained from elsewhere, and reforming existing drainage ditches en-route where necessary.
As the Lead Earthworks Contractor, D Morgan successfully undertook the following as part of the project:
  • The material required to form the new embankments was obtained from the adjacent agricultural farmland
  • Extensive negotiations were undertaken with the landowners and their representatives to ensure that the programme remained on target
  • Substantial and wide-ranging borrow pits were formed, and an unusually high water table was located
  • To avoid this issue an agreed revised strategy was produced, and the material was extracted and left to aerate on the surface ensuring sufficient supply to form the embankments

Our Involvement as Principal Contractor:

The project demonstrated that D Morgan delivers the most economic- and programme-efficient earthworks solutions for any project. Our enthusiastic approach and considerable professional expertise allowed up-front design and continued flexibility of revised strategy within defined scope of works and budgets.
